An
Original Concept : The Grange Playhouse
A recent meeting at the
Southard Grange Hall produced a unique concept in community theatres. In November, 2010, the 19th century schoolhouse, home of a
collective of organic farmers, also
became the home of a collective of producers, writers, directors, actors,
musicians, and designers. The Grange Playhouse will produce a new
show to run for the first three weekends of the month. All
shows will be original works or classics in the public domain that
are being produced in a new way, i.e., modernizing
Shakespeare.
The Grange Playhouse ,
located at 4860 Highway 9 South, Howell, NJ 07731, is a charming old
schoolhouse whose auditorium has a stage and seats for just under
100 guests. The inaugural
production was MEN ARE DOGS by local playwright, Joe Simonelli. Published
by Samuel French, MEN ARE DOGS is a hilarious farce that opened the
first weekend in November. In December the Playhouse offered the original
musical, A ROCKIN' CHRISTMAS CAROL by Jade Greene and Ed Schilter, an original, rock musical version of the Dickens' classic.
Anyone interested in
bringing a production to the stage or getting involved with the group
is encouraged to submit their ideas, scripts, questions, etc. to : cafetheatre@verizon.net
